The Centre Vasco da Gama is a private non-profit institution, in the legal form of association, formed from the structures of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja. It promotes links between the scientific community and regional environment, enhancing synergies through the development of joint projects, provide services and advice in their areas of competence, training measures and training, applied research and experimental development. As an agent of regional development the Centre also promotes activities on cultural and scientific areas, by organizing seminars and conferences and the publication and dissemination of studies and research.
It is intended to be the link between the Polytechnic Institute of Beja and the local, regional, national and foreign public and private institutions, in a perspective of integrated development. This framework takes as implications to meet the opportunities opening up the region's development as a way of rooting and strengthening its vocation as an agent to support the development of their communities.

As an institution that aims at linking the entire community, enhancing synergies with a view to working together, the Centre is an institution open to all who wish to contribute to this goal, whether in the form of individually associate or in the form of collective associate.
